ABSTRACT

Title: Analog Instrument Competency of Pilots Trained in Glass Cockpit Aircraft
Institution: Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
Degree: Master of Aeronautical Science
Year: 2008
The purpose of this research project is to study the perceptions of those involved in flight training regarding the current system of instrument training. This study seeks to determine if the current training methods for new instrument-rated pilots trained exclusively in Technologically Advanced Aircraft are adequate for operation of aircraft with analog instrumentation considering the increased workload placed upon the pilot. A survey will be given to current flight instructors, private pilots, newly certificated instrument-rated pilots, and the Pilot Examiners in charge of pilot testing. The goal is to examine the major areas of concern and suggested solutions.
